The speckle pattern is recorded by the video camera and digitised in a computer in a similar manner to the shearography system. The figure below schematically details the layout. The in-plane set-up differs from the out-of-plane set-up in that there is no defined reference beam. The laser beam is as before split into two seperate beams.

Speckle interferometry is a density sensitive line-of-sight flow visualization techniques which allows simultaneous quintitative measurements of deflection angles of the laser light passed through the flow [1]. Digital versions of PIV and speckle interferometry (SI) improve significantly the possibilities of the techniques [1, 2]. In this work, the possibility to use of a speckle interferometry method as a basis for the tracking system of cornea structural changes at thermal influence of a nondestructive laser radiation is considered. Also for a cornea, the polymeric phantom was picked up . A new experimental technique has been devised to measure residual stresses in ductile materials with a combination of laser speckle pattern interferometry and spot heating. The speckle pattern interferometer measures in-plane deformations while the heating provides for very localized stress relief.

Before the milestone work of Leedertz in 1970 coherent speckles generated from a laser illuminated object are considered noise to be eliminated or minimized. Leedertz shows that coherent speckles are actually information carriers. In this work, an X-ray nanobeam of a free-electron laser was generated using reflective KB focusing optics combined with speckle interferometry. The speckle profiles generated by 2 nm platinum particles were systematically investigated on a single-shot basis by changing the alignment of the multilayer KB mirror system installed at the SPring-8 Angstrom Compact Free-Electron Laser, in combination with computer simulations. measurement based on the laser speckle phenomenon has now become an important subject of optical metrology for full-field NDE (Non destructive Evaluation). The speckle techniques can be classified into three broad categories: speckle photography, speckle interferometry and speckle shear interferometry. Optotune laser speckle reducers remove local interferences and significantly reduce speckle noise in laser systems by dynamically diffusing the laser beam.

This is done by applying phase-shifting techniques to speckle interferometry, which will quantitatively determine the phase of double-exposure speckle measurements. The Abstract: A metrology system combining three laser speckle measurement techniques for simultaneous determination of 3D shape and micro- and macroscopic deformations is presented.
